ePDH Course Provider Biography

Mr Dawber has a wide ranging background in the Surveying Profession having attained current licensure in five states. Starting out in surveying as a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, he pursued his chosen profession by attending SUNY Farmingdale for all of the Surveying Classes offered and followed that by joining a Long Island firm to continue his career. Licensed in New York in 1979 his diverse experience brought him to North Carolina in 1996 where he finally completed his formal education at Fayetteville Technical Community College with an AAS Degree in Surveying Technology, demonstrating that education is a lifelong process. Immediately on receiving the degree, the school invited him to become a part of the Adjunct Staff which he continues today at Brunswick Community College.

Over the years he acquired licenses in four additional states having served as survey project manager, department manager, as a contracted consultant and an expert witness for a Forensic Engineering Firm. Starting out in boundary and lot surveys, his experience has encompassed positions as the surveyor in responsible charge for large Campus surveys, Construction Layout, work on various Military Bases, GPS Surveys, GIS Data Acquisition and also as the project surveyor overseeing the Hydrographic Technician(s) on Beach Fill and Hydrographic projects for the USACE.

As an instructor he has provided his personal experiences to students for courses in Surveying I, II & III, Surveying Law, Introduction to CAD and plain Hand Drafting (a lost art). These included some of the basics that today’s aspiring surveyors need to be aware of in order to understand what the current technology is performing automatically. By interjecting real world experience, the students are given examples of situations that are not found in the text books.
