Life Safety Code, published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), establishes minimum requirements that will provide a reasonable degree of safety from fire and similar emergencies in buildings and structures. It has been adopted as a regulatory requirement by many States and federal agencies. This course helps you understand the goals of life safety, know the key concepts within life safety, and learn about means of egress requirements contained in Chapter 7 of the Life Safety Code (LSC). The course has a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. * Note: This course can be used to satisfy part of the 4-hour Life Safety Code training requirement for engineers licensed in Louisiana. Note to Louisiana PE: If you serve as the "professional of record" for a given project, or if you are responsible for any part of a set of plans which are to be submitted for approval to any agency, such as the Office of the Fire Marshall, then you must earn at least 4 PDHs in Life Safety Code, or building codes, or ADA Accessibility Guidelines, or a combination thereof. Note: Key terms are "professional of record" and "signing and sealing plans". NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD. Specific course topics that are on the borderline and are not acceptable by the NY Board have been noted under the course description on our website. |
