Over the past several decades, the coastal population in the United States has increased significantly. The increased coastal population led to increased coastal development, which led in turn to greater numbers of structures at risk from coastal hazards such as storms, waves, and flooding. This course provides engineers, architects, home builders, and contractors with a series of recommended foundation designs that will help create safer and stronger buildings in coastal areas. The designs are intended to help support rebuilding efforts after coastal areas have been damaged by hurricanes. The course materials are based entirely on the FEMA P-550 Recommended Residential Construction for Coastal Areas - Building on Strong and Safe Foundations (Second Edition, Dec. 2009). This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD.
