Tim Myers & Joe Harris Compaction Grouting, also referred to as Low Mobility Grouting, uses a low slump, mortar-like grout under pressure to displace the soils laterally. In doing so, this method densifies loose granular soils, reinforces fine grained soil and stabilizes subsurface voids or sinkholes. This technique can be used for increasing bearing capacity, reducing settlement, mitigating liquefaction and other applications for new or existing construction. Permeation grouting uses a fluid (high mobility or low viscosity) grout to permeate into the pore space of the soil to create a solidified mass. Permeation grouting can be used to create barriers to groundwater flow, underpin foundations, excavation support and stabilization of granular soils These grouts can be either chemical or cement based. This presentation will review the technique basics, general engineering principals and operational details of these techniques. Keller North America provides a wide range of geotechnical engineering and construction services to improve soils in-place and to both construct new and to rehabilitate foundations. The techniques that will be discussed include Compaction & Jet Grouting, Embankment Stabilization & Excavation Support, Vibro Compaction & Replacement, Micropiles and Pile Driving. Within our range of services, a Ground Modification solution is generally available for the toughest subsurface conditions.
