As part of a maintenance program youve been tasked to review a hydraulic fluid sample analysis taken from the HPU powering your ships steering gear. The report tells you that the sample meets NAS 1638 Class 7, but what does that mean? Is this fluid suitable for the intended service? How does this rating compare with ISO 4406 requirements? Is there a direct conversion between standards? Are there other standards that are currently being used?
This 4 PDH online course will compare various standards use to evaluate hydraulic fluid cleanliness and touch on some of the history associated with these standards as well as the finer details on how to interpret the data. Additionally, basic information regarding fluid filtration will be provided.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
