Reverse Engineering

Semih Genculu, P.E.

Reverse engineering is a process that involves duplicating an existing component, subassembly, or product, without the aid of drawings, documentation, or computer model. Reverse engineering enables the duplication of an existing part by capturing the componentÂ’s physical dimensions, features, and material properties.

The reasons for reverse engineering are multiple: to replace damaged components (for which CAD models are nonexistent), to update obsolete parts, to fit new parts into a current assembly or environment, to generate new manufacturing plans, or simply to analyze competitorsÂ’ product features.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
