Warren T. Jones, Ph.D., PE The content of this course is a 2014 National Research Council report entitled At the Nexus of Cybersecurity and Public Policy: Some Basic Concepts and Issues. Cybersecurity is a national issue of increasing importance to government agencies and private-sector companies both large and small that are vulnerable to cyber thefts of sensitive information, cyber vandalism and denial-of-service attacks. Of special concern is the nations critical infrastructure, including the electrical power grid, air traffic control system, financial systems and communications networks that depend extensively on information technology for its operation. As a primer, this report presents fundamental concepts and principles that serve as points of departure for understanding specific cybersecurity incidents or proposals to improve security. The specifics of cybersecurity change rapidly, but the fundamental concepts and principles described in this course change more slowly. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD. Specific course topics that are on the borderline and are not acceptable by the NY Board have been noted under the course description on our website. |
