Facilities design and space planning are very important parts of project execution and facilities management for commercial or institutional buildings. Adequate space planning at the early stage of the design phase will ensure the quality of design, the satisfaction of end-users, and the life safety of occupants. This course is based entirely on the Design Guide: Army Reserve Facilities - unified facility criteria published by the US Department of Defense. This Design Guide contains design criteria and general requirements to be used in the development of designs for new construction and additions/alterations of U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) facilities. Although the guidelines are written for the military facilities, the basic principles of the facility design and space planning described in this publication can be applied to commercial and institutional facilities as well.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.
