Zonal Cavity Method of Lighting Calculations

William F. Maskevich, PE

This course teaches takes a unique approach to interior lighting design in that it tackles the essential information used directly in lighting design calculations. The author knows from experience that there is a lot of knowledge that goes into a good, quality lighting system that meets the objectives of providing appropriate light levels for the tasks to be lit. This tutorial starts with the end goal in mind of providing the layout of a lighting system by covering the lighting calculations and by providing an understanding of factors directly used in those calculations. Subsequent course will cover topics such as selecting light level, lamp and luminaire selection, energy efficiency, and point calculations.

The Zonal Cavity Method of lighting calculations is a long-accepted method of determining the general illumination in an interior space. Even if you use software for lighting design, this course will provide good understanding of how appropriate light levels are obtained and the relevant factors.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
