Thomas Mason, P.E. The National Electric Code (NEC, 70HB-2017.pdf, NFPA.org) is the law for facilities electrical design in the United States and many parts of the world. It is written as a standard, with a single topic showing up in many Chapters and Sections. Further, it carries a disclaimer that it is not a design standard. This course attempts to respond to the need for a design standard. It attempts to review the entire NEC (1367 pages for the Handbook edition), explain the content in English, and provide design guidance. Obviously, the result is an approximation. Also, because of the quantity of content, the effort is split into four sections, with Part 1 being Critical Elements, Changes for 2017, and Definitions. Part 1 is Changes in the 2017 revision of the Code, Article 100, Definitions and Article 110 Requirements for Electrical Installations. Part 2 is Chapter 2, Wiring and Protection and Chapter 3, Wiring Methods and Materials. Part 3 is Chapter 4, Equipment for General Use and Chapter 5, Special Occupancies Chapter 6, Special Equipment is not included in this series. Part 4 is Chapter 7, Special Conditions and Chapter 8, Communications Systems. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
