FEMAs Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) are in frequent use by numerous professions and disciplines, yet some people consult these maps not quite knowing what their uses and limitations are or how they interface with Flood Insurance Studies (FISs). This webinar offers an introduction to new users of FIRMs (a.k.a. Flood Maps), clarifies the many terms and abbreviations that often confuse, and increases confidence in experienced users of Flood Maps. Numerous resources exist that professional users of FEMAs materials often remain unaware of. Well cover some of the most useful of these. In addition, real-world examples will prove that knowing the flood zone of a property does not predict the actual risks of flooding in many cases. Well learn how and why we should understand both the appropriate uses and limitations of FEMAs flood maps.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. This course qualifies for Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) credits.
