This two-hour online course presents the science and various classes of wetlands, their processes and characteristics. It covers the steps taken for planning a wetland project including the formulation and evaluation of alternatives for a feasible project. The various phases involve the disciplines of engineering, biology, and geology and soil science among others. Design and construction of wetlands are not included here. Restoration actions and activities performed at wetland sites must comply with federal, state and local regulations to protect water quality and the environment.
Key to formulating a feasible loan is defining the problem and objectives of a wetland. Attempting too many functions may not be successful. The student will understand the procedures for developing a feasible plan for a wetland restoration or enhancement project. This course also considers the benefits wetlands provide for controlling soil erosion and sediment and to protect water quality.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
