Hydrogen is seen by many as the energy carrier of the future that will lead to efficient and clean fuel for use by utilities and especially transportation systems. Natural gas and coal have the potential to be affordable resources that can produce the large amounts of hydrogen needed in the near to mid-term for the Nation to begin transition to a hydrogen economy. This course details the following major research and development efforts, initiated by the George W. Bush Administration, that are intended to lead to this hydrogen economy.
- Hydrogen from Natural Gas Program
- FreedomCar Program focused on the development of fuel cell technology for automobiles to efficiently convert hydrogens electrochemical energy into electric power.
- Hydrogen from Coal Program
- FutureGen Program focused on building the worlds first, coal based, near zero-emission electricity and hydrogen plant integrated with sequestration.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
